Re: new camera nikon d700

This depends on if you are keeping your DX body and what the lenses are. I personally can't see the point of using a DX lens on an FX body.

It would help if we knew what kit you have.

Re: new camera nikon d700

In that case I think I'd sell them all and buy something that will do justice to the D700.

Re: new camera nikon d700

Depends on what you shoot.

The classic general purpose lens is the 24-70 f2.8, but if you like taking urban shots in tight locations, such as some of our historical towns and cities, the 14-24 f2.8 might be better. Alternatively, maybe a 50mm f1.4 (although the 50mm f1.8 is 90% of the f1.4 at a third of the price) plus a 70-200 f2.8 might suit your needs better.

A bit more information on what you shoot would help.

Re: new camera nikon d700

Some good advice from Graham, but you also have to think about your budget for lenses. The FX lens range isn't exactly cheap, but you can source high quality used AF or AF-S lenses which will work with the D700.

Personally I'd be inclined to keep the 70-300 vr as this will be ok on the 700 and will do for occasions where you have plenty of light

Re: new camera nikon d700

Pretty mazed you didn't address this before you bought the D700!

Good advice above. I'd go for one good quality pro lens like the 24-70 F2.8 AF-S to start with - there's no point putting a cheap lens on a D700 - you may as well put old 2-star in a Ferrari

Re: new camera nikon d700

Take note of Ian's advice. There are some great older Nikon lenses around - the 35-70 f2.8 for instance if you don't need a wide angle, although I think that the outer element rotates on focusing. Not sure if the later 28-70 does this, but not knowing what you shoot most makes it difficult to make recommendations.

The 28-70mm F2.8 doesn't rotate the front element.
