New Tamron 150 / 600mm lens

Shown at the Paris show last week.
Tamron announced the development of a revolutionary new 150-600mm Ultra-Telephoto Zoom Lens for full-frame and APS-C format DSLR cameras

SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD (Model A011)

Cutting-edge eBAND Coating and three LD (Low Dispersion) glass elements deliver superior imaging performance, while the latest built-in VC (Vibration Compensation) system broadens users’ horizons in achieving sharper handheld photographs. Comes with a hood and tripod mount.
No price yet, but may be a good alternative to the Canon 100 / 400.

Re: New Tamron 150 / 600mm lens

I DON'T THINK VIBRATION COMPENSATION, WILL BE A USEFUL SELLING POINT FOR THIS LENS, AS THE LENS IS APPROX 10 INCHES LONG AND WEIGHS APPROX 4 POUNDS.

WHO IS GOING TO USE THIS HAND HELD

Off to the gym.

On saying that. Probably well out of my price range.

Re: New Tamron 150 / 600mm lens

If this is anywhere near as good performing at the long end as the Tamron 200-500 is suposed to be this could be very interesting. Esp if priced around the same $1000 mark as that.

Guess it would retail around $12-1500 new ?

Weighs the same as the Bigma (Sigma 50-500) and twice my Canon 300mm F4. Be interesting to see more when it is released.

Re: New Tamron 150 / 600mm lens

I'd of course have to try and hand hold it. But I'm a big brute.. At 600mm you probably wouldn't get much usable without at least a monopod though.. But I'd love to try and prove that wrong.

and if it's anywhere close to the quality of the other tamron lens I bought this year I wouldn't have any regrets buying it..

Re: New Tamron 150 / 600mm lens

Me too Lcraft, I have a habit of hand holding at low speeds. I too am big, and on my mobility scooter I have a stable platform to shoot from, so like you would just have to give it a try.
Still wating for the price / reviews to see if it is worth an upgrade.
I got two other Tamrons last month and am well pleased, (see review section).
All the best, Charles.

Re: New Tamron 150 / 600mm lens

I saw your reviews on the Tamrons. I've long been wanting to buy the holy trifecta of Nikon F2.8 zoom lenses. I'm rethinking that multi thousand dollar endeavor and looking very closely at the Tamrons.

I absolutely love my 90mm Macro from them and if it's even close to the same quality then it's a definite winner..

That's the down side of living where I do. When I lived in Philadelphia I was blocks away from a huge camera store where you could walk in with your body and the clerk would install a lens on it so you could test it out..

Where I live there isn't the interested population to support such a store.. i really miss it..

Re: New Tamron 150 / 600mm lens

That's spooky, I was always wanting the same but in Canon.
Then I realised that there were others out there making lenses as good or even better, at far less cost.
I have replaced the main 2 with Tamron, and am considering the Tokina wide angle.
O.K. so I wont have the white lens or the red band, but I will have more money in my pocket to go places and take pictures, and that's what it is all about.
I live in a fairly small town but we used to have 5 photoshops, 2 went back almost to the beginning, but they have all gone now. The nearest is 20 ish miles away and is staffed by "box sellers" rather than photographers and has no parking nearby.
I guess it's the curse of internet shopping, now we are realising the consequences it may be too late. Will have a look at your site. All the best, Charles.

Re: New Tamron 150 / 600mm lens

Just been looking at the 150 /600 reviews. They are all enthusiastic about the lens, and the quoted prices (not UK) are $1300 /Eu 1000 so I will be watching developments here to see what the price will be and what the main reviewers say.

Re: New Tamron 150 / 600mm lens

I guess that you will have seen the official announcement

http://www.pixalo.com/community/news...ens-54135.html

I suspect this might well result in other makers producing similar focal length ranges - or maybe longer ones that like this Tamron will be suitable for wildlife.
