New Toy.

I have been dithering a long time about downsizing to a bridge camera as lugging a bag of lenses etc. was getting a bit much. I have big hands with a slight shake so a wee thin camera was no good after much research I finally bought a Panasonic DMC 2000 From John Lewis it was 10 cheaper and they give a two year warranty.

It has 20-420 lens 20mb and a big chunky grip. Should be delivered early next week. Up to the present I have been using a Canon EOS 20D some 13 years old so I think it is time I updated a bit.

Re: New Toy.

COLIN, I BOUGHT THE SAME MODEL FROM WAREHOUSE EXPRESS, IN OCTOBER LAST YEAR. AS I WENT TO PARIS WITH MY GRANDDAUGHTER AND DID NOT WANT TO CARRY LOADS OF EQUIPMENT.
I BOUGHT IT USED, BUT IT WAS MINT, GOT IT FOR 300 CHEAPER THAN THE NEW PRICE AT THE TIME, GOT A 12 MONTH GUARANTEE WITH IT.
I AM VERY PLEASED WITH IT, I BOUGHT A PISTOL GRIP, WITH A REMOTE SHUTTER BUILT IN, I FIND THIS VERY GOOD, AS WHEN HOLDING THE CAMERA IN PORTRAIT MODE, I FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO HOLD, AS I USE MY LEFT HAND.
I BOUGHT THE PISTOL GRIP FROM AMAZON, THINK IT WAS ABOUT 25.

IT IS GREAT FOR TRAVELING, WHEN YOU DONT WANT TO CARRY A LOT. PRODUCES VERY GOOD RESULTS, BUT I WOULD NOT WANT TO USE IT AS AN EVERYDAY CAMERA, I MUCH PREFER TO USE MY NIKONS.
I HOPE YOU ENJOY IT COLIN. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THE PISTOL GRIP, I CAN POST THE AMAZON LINK FOR YOU.

Re: New Toy.

I am looking forward to receiving it as well. Forgot to mention that it has a 1" sensor which cuts down the " Noise" and gives better quality images.
Woody I will the grip out in the meantime to see how I get on. I have taken very little this year and sometimes wonder if it was worth the change. However it will give me motivation to start again.

Re: New Toy.

Picked a good camera Colin, My hands are not all that big. Do they ever fiddle out in front of the lense,,,just joking of course. Lets see a picture at the long end next to the short end.

Boofers, I have hardly used the camera since I bought it. I got some viral infection and spent a few days in hospital so I had little interest. I have only spent some time trying to work out the buttons and the menu which is a bit complicated and taking a few pictures from the front doorstep to see how it worked.
It is a good camera to handle as it is bigger and has a good grip and the stabilizer seems to be excellent for my shaky hand . Hope to get out and about again soon and give it a proper try out.

The one thing about it and only found out after I got it is that Adobe CS6 will not open Panasonic RAW files . I just open them in a free software called Faststone click slide show and this lets me see what I have got all at a glance. I then use my DXOLAB to process any files that I want, from the few that I have done they need very little doing to them.

Colin.

Re: New Toy.

Colin, just took a look at your glider pictures in your test. "Thank You very much", looks to be a find camera able to help out your hand. I did some pixel peeping for sort, and it passed for me. Have fun my friend.

Boffers, Taken in RAW processed in DXOLAB. all I did was select two pre-sets Natural colours for wide angle and HDR artistic for skyline. Two clicks and job done the camera images needed very little done to them.
