New toy!
Just got a new toy - Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L Mk II from Jessops in Trafford centre.
Ok - why Jessops? Well, I looked at Warehouseexpress.com and it was £1,039.00 - I looked at Jessops and it was £1,319.99 so it was obvious! ![]() I rang Jessops in Deansgate and asked if they would price match - they said yes but only locally. When I said what about the Internet they put the phone down on me! So I rang Trafford Centre Jessops and told them that if they could price match I would be there within the hour for it - they said they would have to ring Head Office. Five minutes later they rang back and said yes they could price match it, and hey presto, its now on the end of my camera! So, as somebody who usually avoids Jessops like the plague, I must say I have been very impressed by them this time.

Re: New toy!

Re: New toy!
To be honest I only really "went for it" with it being the Trafford Centre - I was guessing at the time that the most DSLR business they must do there would be the Canon 400D/Nikon D40 etc - however, when I was in there they did have a good range of lenses, and a Canon 1Ds Mk II in stock.
I did try to say I had seen the 1Ds Mk II for £399 in Currys but they had none of it! lol!

Re: New toy!
Northampton Branch price matched my 40D to the web, they had to check with head office, but no problem. The manager in there is very helpful, but the previous one wasn't. I think you are just lucky if there are good staff in a particular branch.

Re: New toy!
Which is exactly why I don't bother with them anymore Sarah. I feel if a company can't get its act together enough to all sing from the same hymnsheet then I am not going to give them my business. I also feel that if a company would have sold me a lens for £280 more of my hard earnt money just because I wasn't fortunate enough to have seen it available elsewhere for much cheaper then I will go to the company that didn't want to rip me off in the first place.
I can understand that one company might be selling at a higher price out of belief that this price was appropriate but if they have been told that a company is selling something a lot cheaper but will only match the price if I ask them to, they are knowingly selling me something for a lot more money than they would otherwise have been willing to do. I have been turned down for two legitimate price matches where UK-based companies were offering me a considerable saving but Jessops refused to match them despite their so-called price promise. I gave them the benefit of the doubt the 2nd time, I am not giving them a 3rd chance! I am however always delighted to hear that someone has got themselves a good lens at a good price so well done Vinny ![]() Cheers, Rob

Re: New toy!
I agree Rob to an extent. I don't mind using Jessops or anywhere else if it means that I can get my hands on what I want as soon as possible. I could have used WE, paid by credit card and then waiting until some point the next day (having stayed in all day waiting for a delivery that I would "hope" turned up).
Had Jessops not priced matched (as Jessops in Deansgate would not do) then I would have gone with WE without exception. Next time I want something I will try again - and if Jessops (or anybody else for that matter) are silly enough not to want the business then thats their loss - no first, second or third times - it pays for me. That said, the weather has been blinkin awful and so not really been able to go out and use it! LOL! |
