Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G ED

I finally decided to purchase this lens, a mint used one I might add, from MPB photographic, no this isn't an advert, a praise or moan post about the supplier.

I have yet to use the lens in 'anger' so to speak, have taken a couple of shots around the house and of the back garden. Mine garden is small, some 24ft by 30ft or there about, but it managed to get it all in.
I was quite amazed or was that shocked at the size of the front element, gi-nor-mous.
Hopefully will be able to put some good landscapes on here soon.
Anyone else have this lens?
how do you find it?
any tips on use, e.g. tripod or hand-held?
Graham

Re: Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G ED

I've had one of these for over 4 years now and it is a cracker. It will focus down until your subject is virtually on the front element. I use it mostly for my interiors work and due to space constraints I hand hold with it.

Biggest issue for me are the CV's, but that is to be expected with interiors.

I think that there is now a filter system that makes a holder that will fit this lens. Thought I'd put it on here as a news item, but can't find it now. Maybe Lee or Tiffen.

Thanks Graham, yes that is one thing I really got it for was interiors but want to try it on other stuff to.

Re the filters it's amazing that Nikon didn't fit a rear mounted slot in filter system like they do on the long lenses, probably the lens groupings didn't allow it.

Re: Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G ED

Bought mine mainly because I wanted to experiment with exaggerated perspective. I liked the results I was getting with the 17-35, but wanted something wider. Not sure if I will go for a Fish Eye but up to now this is the widest lens I have used. If you only wanted 14mm, Nikon make the 14mm f/2.8 AF-S which includes the in built filter mount, but without the flexibility of the zoom.

Re: Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G ED

I had one - it's a fantastic lens.

However - I now use the Nikon 16-35mm F/4 VR and prefer it. Easy use of existing 77mm filters (Ten stopper mainly). It's lighter. And the excellent VR more than makes up for the stop less light wide open.
