Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8G ED AF-S

Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8G ED AF-S has anyone got this lens, thinking of getting this and selling my Nikon 28-70mm 2.8 lens,
Jessops have it in stock for 1349.00 but will price it for 1200 so its a good deal.
Any thoughts on this
David

Personally I don't like this zoom range. I have had lenes in this range before and it just was not used much by me. However, if you like this range then I would definitely say that if you can get a deal you like for an AFS lens then go for it. The aperture is great and the lens itself should be sharp as the lens you have now as I have heard nothing bad about this lens in all my reading.

Re: Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8G ED AF-S

This lens is a fabulous lens. I'm not sure how good the 28-70mm is. But I do know with reading up on the 24-70 lately, that it doesn't perform as good at 24mm. It's at it's best between the range of 28-60mm. The bokeh is as good as a prime. In your case, does the lens perform well at 28mm? And on which body are you going to use it. I suppose that doesn't really matter a lot. But what I'm saying is that if your lens is great at 28mm, then I wouldn't be at all sure to do the swap.

Pricewise, it's the cheapest you can get the lens for at date. So good deal.

Personally I would suggest having:
Nikkor 17-55 f2.8 (or other brands)
Nikkor 70-200 f2.8 (or other brands)
The gap between 55 and 70 is easily made up by moving your feet.
The best combo would be to have the 17-55 on one body and the 70-200 on a second body and that way you don't even have to switch lens if you are shooting at an event.

17-55 just isn't enough scope for me, ive already got the 70-200, i do alot of glamour and the 24-70mm is a perfect scope, i already have the 28-70mm but want the new one.
Ive just bought the 24-70mm, just waiting for it to be come now,
Thanks for the advice

David

Re: Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8G ED AF-S

I've got the lens and had the 28-70 it's a step up from that and it's far from terrible at 24mm just it shines from about 26mm upwards. I agree the 17-55 is good for me on DX but for full frame I use the 24-70 more than anything and it's sharper than the 17-55 throughout the zoom range even at it's weakest 24mm.
