Nikon 50 1.4 lense query

Having just sold my 50mm 1.8, i am thinking of going out and buying a 1.4 now i have played with the new 1.4g version which i was well impressed with, can someone enlighten me exactly what the 1.4d v 1.4g version differences are.
However i may stick with my 17 55, for the "50" and go and get a Nikon 105 vr, again another nice lense ive played with

Re: Nikon 50 1.4 lense query

The "G" version is a touch heavier (280g vs. 230g), a little longer (5.4cm vs. 4.25cm) and broader (vs. 7.35 cm vs. 6.45cm) and has a larger filter thread on the front (58mm vs. 52mm)

New additions are AF-S focusing making it far faster and very quiet than the older lens, 9 aperture blades instead of seven (for "better" bokeh) and a bayonet style lens hood included with it instead of the old screw-in types that you had to purchase separately with the "D" version.

That about sums it up. It costs about 50 more than the "D" version at places like Warehouse Express.

It is also marginally better optically especially wide open towards the edges and on full frame. I think it vignettes about the same but some tests have said less.

If you don't need a prime lens and can put up with the extra weight of the 17-55

save up for a 105 vr very sharp I have heard and a macro to boot.
