Ok I picked t up today. I had also had a play before I ordered it. For me the advantages are those of the AFS and to a tiny extent the bayonet hood. It may also be a hair sharper at 1.4 especially away from the centre but in my first back to back shots it looks to vingnette a little more than the old model at 1.4.

9 rounded blade diaphram ... yum - same bokeh as you'll get with your 85 f/1.4 aka the cream machine
