Nikon battery advice

I was looking at the battery options for my MB-D10.

To add the high powered EN-EL4a battery it seems extraordinarily expensive.

Battery around £80
Caddy around £40
Charger around £160

Now on eBay you can get substitute products for a lot less. The following link is just under £25.

Does anyone have experience of using these non-Nikon products?

Battery En-EL4a + BL3 2200mAh 11.4V for NIKON MB-D10 on eBay (end time 12-Oct-10 14:57:16 BST)

Re: Nikon battery advice

Not had specific knowledege/useage of that as I'm Canon but I do have clone eBay batteries in my 7D. Exactly the same in all respects except I have to use the supplied charger as the Canon ones are chipped and the Canon charger will destroy clone batteries! Downside is I don't get the feedback as to state of remaining charge - but I think I might manage without that!

I guess it's worth pointing out that in the past I'm aware of others having problems with clones - they are fairly lethal things (Li-ion batteries, that is!) but the worst I've heard is of one melting in the charger. So it'd be worth being around for the first charge!

Re: Nikon battery advice

Overall, the vast majority of people who use third party batteries have no issues and are very pleased. I've used them in the past for my camcorder.

Now we come to where to purchase from. I think there is a small risk from buying on e-bay. Although most traders are genuine, there are - as in all walks of life - some rogues. I would look at places like the 7 Day shop or Keene Electronics who would be cheaper than own brand, but are not likely to deal with dodgy manufacturers.

You are more likely to get the charger from Keene:

Keene Retail Ltd

Maplins might also be worth checking out.

Re: Nikon battery advice

I use a 3rd party EN-EL4a battery in my D700 grip - £17 from 7dayshop.

I've had no issues with it at all. It was a no-brainer for me as I already had the Nikon D3 charger (My D3 got stolen in a burglary but they didn't get my charger)

Re: Nikon battery advice

Thanks guys.

I have two spare non-nikon normal batteries but the EN-EL4a seem really expensive so I was worried that there was a big catch. The charger price is incredible!

Gonna check your website recommendations.

Do you think that really will work?

Lots of the other multi-charger cope with all Nikon batteries except EN-EL4a.

Looks too good to be true!!!

If not how about

Nikon ENEL4A Charger, Nikon ENEL4A Battery Charger from www.buy-battery-charger.co.uk

http://www.batterycentury.com/nikon-...r-p-65001.html

Might be worth the postage from USA

Nikon EN-EL4a Charger | Nikon EN-EL4a battery charger Replacement | BatteryCategory.com

Or a Nikon two battery one 'cheap'

Nikon MH-22 Dual Battery Charger for the EN-EL4 & EN-EL4a Batteries £129
