Nikon D200 +locked memory card lock!

Hi

As in title.

I obviously don't want to force it.

There is some form of electronic catch going on there. The menu lock on/of I think is off.

What else have I missed?

Help!!!!

Re: Nikon D200 +locked memory card lock!

Just to add i haven't used the camera in some time. Does it automatically lock it in case of theft...or some such.

Nothing in the manual.

Can't say I have ever come across a locked memory card before, are you turning the release on the back of the camera? Page4 of the manual shows the latch, if that is what you mean, its called the Card Slot Cover Latch.

Indeed it is but it's not opening for me.

Re: Nikon D200 +locked memory card lock!

I'm pretty sure there is no electronic lock. Perhaps you could try holding the latch in the open position and gently drag the door backwards. I'm not 100% sure but I think the door used to slide slightly before opening out.

I think it is purely mechanical, and the spring has probably locked up, just needs a little nudge.

Re: Nikon D200 +locked memory card lock!

Never come across this before. Might be worth gentle prising while holding the release catch in the open position. Could be stuck shut if no use for a while. If you have a very thin piece of plastic or a feeler gauge it might be worth seeing if you can gently go around the join to free it up, and/or using a dropper to run a tiny amount of water or WD40 along the join.

Without forcing it's not playing.

There is possibly a mil of movememt in the door it's not stuck.....in that sense.

No luck yet though.

Obviouslythere is nothing else stopping it.

I would say I hadn't realised you were supposeded to switch the camera off before changing cards. Is this what's done it?

Sorry David I don't know what else to suggest. If it was mine, I would probably give it a few taps with something hard.

Re: Nikon D200 +locked memory card lock!

under f7

"disable shutter if no memory card"

it says

"Lock Release Locked"

and underneath

"OK Enable Release" which is pointing to "ok"

I never turned mine off, it purely mechanical, lack of use.

I feel there must be a simple expanation.

That whole camera is tight as a bell....nothing sloppy at all.

I'm just missing something simple.

Re: Nikon D200 +locked memory card lock!

Good to see that you have done the job. Maybe operating the release a few times with the door open will free up the mechanism.

I'd turn the camera off to actually remove and replace the card though.
