Nikon D300 problem

Hi all, not been on the forum lately, have been rather busy trying to sell the house and buy in another county; does Norfolk know what it is letting itself in for, That's Norfolk UK not USA.
Anyway, I started taking macro pictures with my 105mm F/2.8 in the last few weeks on the D300 as I think it is a great little camera and the DX meant it was essentially a 157.5mm lens giving me a bit of distance to the insects I have been trying to photograph. Then the last 2 days it was playing silly things with the CF card, The Mac and PC told me either there were not any files on the card or that it needed formatting.
I formatted another blank card in the D300, took some pictures, same thing, but it was intermittent, sometimes taking pictures and sometimes not. Yesterday I took some pictures and I could see them on the display (and they downloaded ok from the card reader, this morning I picked up the camera and took some more, it didn't take any even though the shutter activated, then it told me the card could be corrupt.
Any ideas? should I phone Nikon or send it to a repairer?
good job I do have another couple of Nikons

Re: Nikon D300 problem

Try removing the battery for a while. If it still happens there should be a reset button somewhere that you will need to press with a all pen or a paper clip which will reset any stored settings you have as well as the camera - effectively a factory default reset. You could also have a look to see if there are any bent pins on the card seat.

Re: Nikon D300 problem

The factory reset on most Nikons is a simple two button hold down. Usually those two buttons have a green spot next to them.

Re: Nikon D300 problem

SEE, that's what 'friends' are for, or should I say forums, I reset it with the 2 green buttons (Qual and +/-) and shot a few and the problem didn't reoccur, but it does take about 30 secs for the thumbnails to appear in ViewNX, the D700 and D800 are nearly instant in View.
So will see how it goes.
Thanks all for the solution.

Re: Nikon D300 problem

muscle750 the lens works ok on the D700 and the D800 and I checked the pins, none bent.
christa, I tried 3 cards, happened on all of them, but I have reset and seems to work, yes I use to use 7 day shop but haven't needed to recently.
Thanks both.

That is odd Probably would not hurt to take the battery out for a couple of hours anyway.

I think there is a section in the manual that tells you what settings have been reset when you revert to factory defaults.

Or Graham, you just start shooting and see what happens then find out that it has reverted to JPEGS when you normally prefer RAW! Ooops

Thanks all for the help.
