Nikon D3000 standard objective: focusing ring cumbersome to manually use

Since I started using my camera, I noticed something I didn't like at all about manual focusing (the objective is a Nikkor DX AF-S 18-55 1:3.5-5.6, which comes as standard for this model). Fact is, the ring will move a notch at the moment I release my fingers from it. The physical movement is perhaps very small, but the resulting change in focus is dramatic. This, of course, makes it quite cumbersome to make the focal point stay where I want it to be. I have resorted not to take my fingers off before I've made the shot, but of course this is not practical in all cases. This issue never happened to me with analog SLR cameras before.

Has anybody experienced this, either with this objective or with some other Nikkor one? Is it some known imperfection about it or might my objective be defective?

Don't know the lens (or Nikons, as such) but sounds like the problem associated with kit lenses due to their relatively lightweight construction (allowing lightweight focus motors!). Can't say I've really encountered as a problem, probably as I always tended to use AF with them!

Thank you for your response, Markulous. I have already written to Nikon and they have invited me to send the objective over to them for inspection.

Funny thing is that now I am not noticing this problem. Must be the "but I swear that Office was not loading properly some minutes ago, mr. IT guy" syndrome.

LOL! As an IT guy I can relate to the comment - PEBCAK (Problem Exists Between Chair And Keyboard)!
