I was recently shooting with a Nikon D70, and the camera stopped shooting, mirror locked up and viewfinder displaying the dreaded "err" message. I have done resets, battery recharge-replace, exchanged cf cards... nothing works. I was wondering if anyone has experienced this. My camera is out of warranty, but it looks like this camera is headed to Nikon for service. This is the first time a Nikon has failed me!

Have you tried mounting a different lens?

have not tried a different lens, but have reset the camera and have tried to shoot without the lens...

It could also be that your aperture lock on the lens slipped, so the aperture setting is no longer what is required.

On the lens, move the aperture setting to the highest number, then there is a lever with a little red dot on the lens. Move this lever so that the red dot aligns with the red marker beside it.

Hope this is the problems answer.

I sometimes get an err message on my D70 and have to take the cf out and put it back in.
