nikon sb 600

Hello, christmas is coming up and im trying to find out what i want on my list

I was looking into the nikon sb 600 flash unit for my d70. Does anyone have experience with the unit. I have a promaster ft 1700 now so anything really would be a step up. Im not to familiar with flash photography, but i'd like to get into it.

I mostly do anything shooting wise, whatever i can find. i'd like to get into portraits and things like that.

so...what im asking...is the sb 600 a good all around unit for someone like me?

thanks

I got one. But what I know about flashes you could write between the hairs on a gnats testicle.

Seems to work fine to me. If you have some specific questions, maybe i can help.

If you take up macro photography I am sure that you will be able to confirm the above statement to be true or false and offer conclusive photographic evidence to back it up

No experience with the 600, but plenty with its big brother, the 800. There's not a whole lot of difference between them.

The 600 is 50 grammes lighter, has slightly overall lower full power output and doesn't have a built in bounce card. It can be slaved as a remote flash unit to either an SB-800, SU-800 or a camera that supports wireless TTL - such as your D70.

The most important step in flash photography is learning to get your flash off camera for directional lighting. The SB-600 allows you to do this and is thus ideal for wetting your feet with subjects such as portrait photography or macro work.

Yes; you'll get excellent results to start with just using the flash in iTTL mode and, once you're familiar with the unit, you can explore off-camera flash using your D70 as remote trigger for the 600... something that is quite fun and addictive
