Pre-owned/defective.

D300 number two:
Ran out of focus adjustment.

Faultless and new.

I really will not settle for sub standard at these prices.

That happened to me with my D200, my third one was perfect. My first one had dead pixels and banding, my second one had banding. I was lucky with my D300 though. Seams to be alot of lemons out there, some kind of quality assurance issue with nikon thailand. grrrrr

Most of my problems were caused by Jessops selling customer returns.

You'd think they'd have learned not to sell me garbage by now.

Okay, you've got me on this one... how exactly does one run out of focus adjustment??

The D300 has a built in fine focus adjustment feature for correcting front/back focus.
It has a scale of -20 to +20 so if you have a lens that is +22 then you are stuffed.
It does not appear to work with zooms very well in as much as:
You may be able to correct errors at the long end but, it throws the focus out at the wide end.

Well that's my experience of it anyway.

If you have lenses that are so far out of whack that they're not corrected by the AF fine tune option, then you need to send them to Nikon to be serviced.

Well I just take them back to Jessies and swap them out.

So far my latest is performing well and the lens/camera combo needs no adjustment.

If I find a fault however, back it goes, and I don't care how many times Jessies throw their eyes to the heavens and sigh!

Sadly, this means they will probably try and sell my cast offs as new product to un-suspecting punters.

Selling returns is really not on. I think that sort of thing should be reported to trading standards as they are in effect advertising new goods and selling used goods and goods that are not up to standard.
