I've just been into Jessops to get a Circular Polariser (yes I know but I need it in a hurry!) and it seems I also came out wth a Sigma 50mm F2.8 DG Macro lens too.

Not quite sure how that happened!

Yes it's just something that seems to happen.

I avoid shops altogether in case they happen to be selling a 40D.

oh don't....I asked to try it on a body and I nearly fainted when he picked up the D300.

Yep, definitely something that's happened to most of us at one stage or another... but congrats on the new (unexpected) toy!

LOL And it doesn't only happen with photography either ... More often than not, if I go to the shop to buy bread + milk I walk - nay, stagger - out with maybe 5 carrier bags full of groceries I hadn't realised I needed before I got to the shop

I must admit to have a hankering for one of those as well. For table top stuff often a shorter focal length is more use especially on a DX sensor.

Angela, I can empathise! Went into Jessops yesterday to buy a polariser 72mm and came out with a Sigma 10-20 mm! The lad working there was superb, he opened another lens box to swap over the lens cap for a more effective Sigma cover that operates like the Nikon one. He knocked off money saying I'd get a discount if I ordered online and collected in store. Superb service.

£ 304 FOR A SIGMA 10 - 20MM LENS IS WAY OVER THE TOP. THIS LENS NOW CAN BE GOT FOR BETWEEN £250 - £280, STILL YOU HAVE MADE A GOOD CHOICE WITH THE LENS, IT IS A CRACKER
