Point and press
I'm looking for recommendations for a cheap point and press for my daughter's birthday. She's going to be 7 and like me, she lives life at a sprint so anything expensive will probably turn out to be a bad idea. I want digital so she can get used to downloading her pictures and email them to her friends etc.
I've been looking at this one but they're out of stock everywhere I look. Has anyone got any ideas or recommendations? Or mibbe a 2nd hand one in good nick that they've grown out of? Thanks |

Just bought a Fuji Finepix J29 £89 from Boots its been on sale at £179 there is a replacement for this model hence half price 10.2mp 3x optical zoom 2.7 lcd screen face detection, this will be my 6yr old Granddaughters Christmas Present its very good value and a ideal starter camera simple to operate too even I can operate it!

Re: Point and press
Stay away from cheep and cheerful, if you want it to last, but all the good makers, Canon, Fuju, Olympus, Nikon, Pentax, (Did I miss any?..) all do good budget and good small point-and-shoot camera's.
Make sure it comes with case, batteries, and at least one memory card.... Absolute MUST is that the card is removable, as cards are the biggest fault cause. Go get hands on with a couple.... you should be able to work out how to take a photograph without any reference to the instructions manual, and it should look and feel robust... Check hinges on battery and memory card compartment... if they look "plasticy" and easy to break, they probably are. We are on the second Fuji Finepix in this house as the Wifes camera... she is non to technically enthusiastic, She understands, but wants it simplified, as she is a bigger techno-sceptic than I am, and the Fuji camera's do excellent quality for 7x5 prints with a decent optical zoom that is easy to use.
