Question from a newbie

Hi

I have recently got a Canon 400D with it's standard lens and am looking to get a telephoto lens for when I go on holiday in the next couple of weeks.

I have heard that a good one to get is the Tamron AF 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Di II LD MACRO Lens ...

Has anyone used this lens? Is it a good choice? Would anyone suggest something better?

Also, will this work for taking wider angle shots than my 18-55mm? Or would I be better off getting a wide angle lens as well?

Any help would be most appreciated!!

TIA

Hi Grillyfish

Good choice of camera you wont go far wrong with that model

The Tamron AF 55-200mm would be a good choice as you would have 18-55 with your kit lens and then 55-200 with the tamron allowing you to get shots from fairly close with the 18-55 and of course those ones that are further away with the 55-200.

The Tamron 55-200 will not take wider angle shots than your 18-55 and you would not really need a wide angle as 18mm is fairly wide certainly for your holiday needs anyway.

Having not used a Tamron 55-200 i could not tell you how good or bad they are but the 2 lenses would certainly be a good starting point for you to get some great holiday shots.

Have a nice time and dont forget to show us your pictures when you get back

Dave
