Replacement Kit Lense
Hi, I know it's been asked before but I am looking at buying one of these 3 lenses and I wondered if someone could advise me of which is best for the 400D. I have recently purchased the Sigma 70-300 APO lense but I like to do landscape photography. I am quite new to photography so I don't have as much experience as some of you guys to which lense to buy. Normally it's a matter of trying them out, but as much as I would like to buy all 3 and compare them, unfortunately my budget won't quite stretch that far.
1) Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF) Lens 2) Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC MACRO Lens 3) Canon EF-S 17-85mm f4-5.6 IS USM (with £100 Canon cashback) All around the £250 mark. Thanks in advance Jellyhead |

Re: Replacement Kit Lense
I was in the same market you're speaking of, and I really wanted to get a 2.8 aperture. The 17-50 was a bit more than the 28-75 for Tamron, so I opted for the less expensive one. I'm happy with it so far, save one or two little glitches.
Considering your target will be landscapes, I would opt for a tripod and use either the 17-85 or the 17-50, as you get the wider field of view. |

Re: Replacement Kit Lense
I think it might be worth going for the Tamron, due to its good aperture, it might come in handy one day, but depending on your subjects other than landscapes, for example, you might want a slightly longer zoom reach...

Re: Replacement Kit Lense
Guys...quick question...
If a Tamron lens says it is for Canon Af, will it work on the EOS 350d? |

Re: Replacement Kit Lense
The Canon 17-85IS is a very useful all purpose lens. It does just fine for landscapes and for anything not moving quickly indoors the IS lets you use it just fine.
This is 10 candlepower (on the cake) at my grand daughter's birthday.
