Replacing bulb in flash gun
I've got a speedlight 550 flash, that has today started smoking, can you replace the bulbs (if that's what it's called) easily, or do you have to send away?
Not a good weekend for repairs, my 70-200 got dropped as well ![]() |

Re: Replacing bulb in flash gun
I don't think it is a user-replacable item, Sarah. Also, it might be something else that is overheating.
Looks like a service job to me. |

Re: Replacing bulb in flash gun
So you can't take that flash into a pub then?
What was smoking exactly? Like most things, you should be able to get a spare but, as Graham suggests, if it's something more than just a bulb........... What did you manage to bend on the lens? ![]() |

Re: Replacing bulb in flash gun
Best not ask about the lens! Andy was kind enough to fetch some stuff from my bag in the car at a friends engagement yesterday, but didn't do the bag up. we got home, he took the bag out of the boot and bang!!!! Lens hits kerbstone! Sending to Canon tomorrow. £60.00 per hour + VAT. It is working, but there is a bit of a noise as it focuses.
As for the flash, smoke from behind front plastic where bulb is. Andy's factory is all electronics, so as it's a bit old, I'll let them have a look for loose connections or faulty bulb. Both repairs a bit much. |

Re: Replacing bulb in flash gun
Well lens back at Canon & I suggest nobody drops theirs. £225.00 for repairs
Still they did a good job on the warranty repair and they've said I will have it back by Saturday for a bike race. Bag will now be zipped at all times!!!! Awaiting Andy looking at flash, but may buy a second hand one. |
