Sample images - new 50mm f1.4
Here are a few images from my new 50mm f1.4 lens. Yes, its sharp - when I take care of the basics required to make a sharp image
- tripod or adequate shutter speed. ![]() Its a joy to use such a fast lens and for the first time I feel in complete control of my DOF. All these were hand held. 1/800s at f1.8 ![]() 1/500s at f4.0 ![]() Taken in heavy shade 1/200s at f2.5 ![]() Finally, taken hand held 1/640 at f4.5 ![]()

Re: Sample images - new 50mm f1.4
I love fifties,,have a few,
. I like um' all except the second one. I have been working around the DOF on my macro lens, so the window or the flowers, one or the other. So that means moving to align the DOF with a prime lens so you can get them in. I was shooting a centipede yesterday and couldn't keep all the legs in focus until I went for a 90 degree alignment. I walk around just to get it right if the picture demands it with my fifty, picked the habit up from something I read to adjust for this type of out of focus subject in your picture. Have fun with your lens Paul,,![]() |

Re: Sample images - new 50mm f1.4
Great lens indeed. I have the cheaper 1.8 variant which I still think is a kick ass lens for an amateur like myself. Cheap too. The only problem I've had with it has all been down to my lack of experience in that sometimes the D.o.F drops off too quickly which isn't always apparent in the viewfinder or on the LCD display. I sometimes feel I wished I'd closed down another stop or two. However, more recent images have been turning out well so I think I'm at least getting used to it
