Sandisk Compact Flash Cards

I have a Canon 40D and wondered if anyone on here has had any experiences (good or bad) with Compact Flash cards other than Sandisk? Or should I stick with Sandisk?

Re: Sandisk Compact Flash Cards

It depends. I think the big names are all reliable Lexar, Kingston, Transcend etc. Personally I would be wary of makes I haven't heard of unless there was a huge saving simply because it's not the cost of the card it's how much a few hundreds images could be worth if you lose them, financially and emotionally. I suspect we all have stories from film days where something has gone wrong and we've lost 36 shots. These days it's potentially far more serious. This guy is on a bity of a crusade to test CF cards. On the whole Sandisk do do better but please note this is with a D300 which has UDMA support, it may not apply to the 40D but is something to keep in mind in case you ever change cameras.

Re: Sandisk Compact Flash Cards

I've never tried anything other that Sandisk & Lexar.

I did have a problem with a Lexar card sometime ago which I was asked to return to them and they sent me a brand new one.

I personally would stick with Sandisk but as I say I've never tried (apart from Lexar) any other brand......they are so cheap these days too.

I stick with SanDisk for no better reason than I've never had a faulty one, but that doesn't mean the others aren't as good.

Re: Sandisk Compact Flash Cards

I only use Sandisk and they are pretty much cheap as chips these days.

Hell my first card was an 2Gb Ultra II which cost 140 in 2005

My most recent purchase was an 8Gb Extreme IV for 60 or so.

Re: Sandisk Compact Flash Cards

I once dropped my Sandisk Extreme ııı in to a river... took some time to fish it up again, but works still like a new. Forget it once in a car for a night with -25 celsius, works all right. Never tried to put it in a cooking water, yet. I quess it is quite robust.

Re: Sandisk Compact Flash Cards

Don't ever get Kingston!! My 4GB 133x is performing much worse than the speed claimed. I called them they replied they produced the speed from their rig so they did not fake the numbers... Considering I have a Quad Core 3Ghz Intel system with the Sandisk Extreme card reader, I believe my "rig" is sufficient enough to show the read performance of the CF cards.

I just bought a 8GB Sandisk Extreme IV and it's extremely quick!! From now on I will only stick with Sandisk!!

Re: Sandisk Compact Flash Cards

I have never had a problem with Lexar or Sandisk. But I have had a total non read from a Delkin "FilmPro!CF card. This Delkin had a Life Time gaurantee and they promptly replaced the card but were unable (or unwilling) to recover the 200 plus shots recorded. They didn't refund the forward postage that I had to pay to return the CF card either.
I use Sandisk always now which always seem to perform exactly "what it says on the box"

FWIW, I've never had an problems with Sandisk cards, but the only card I've ever had fail was a PNY 1 gig CF card after about 6 months of weekly use.

I have 2 sandisks, two 7dayshop, 2 DaneElec ones.

All work perfectly and stand up the the 40D burst mode. I must admit the sandisk +30mb ones I got last are blinding

Re: Sandisk Compact Flash Cards

Stick with Sandisk , I used to use CF cards which were flawless but then changed my camera which uses SDHC cards.

I bought a Transcend 8mb SDHC card and whilst it was fast it lost data allover the place so much so I simply couldnt trust it. I then bought a Sandisk 4mb SDHC card (Extreme III) and again its flawless and very fast as I normally shoot RAW and Jpeg at the same time.

Transcend card might be ok , but in my experience it wasnt, I might of just got a duff card lol
