Sigma 10-20mm

Just ordered a Sigma 10-20mm. Hopefully will arrive on monday...

I occasionally do guest house websites so hopefully I can find some clients to justify the 300 outlay failing that I suppose i'll just have to take some landscape shots...

Cracking lens. You better get used to the "perspective" crop when shooting anything with verticals at the wider end of the zoom

Re: Sigma 10-20mm

You must be a Nikon man then, the Canon version in Jessops is about 30 cheaper for some reason (not that I'm complaining ) and with the 10% off code that take's it down to 270...

...So don't worry, even with the 10% off you wouldn't have got a better deal at Jessops.

Re: Sigma 10-20mm

Very good lens - as Dave says be ready, its a bit weird at first looking through at the widest angles.

Colour and contrast on this lens I find to be very good and gives very sharp results softening just a little at the edges.

Got mine for 270 and pleased I did, dont think I would have been quite so impressed had I paid twice the price and gone for the Canon equivalent

Re: Sigma 10-20mm

It was a close run thing. I can get the nikon one in the UK for 500 delivered but I decided I'd rather have the extra width - this way I can also get the Nikon 50mm f/1.4 too

Re: Sigma 10-20mm

It was the same for me aswell as I can get the Canon 10-22 imported for 360 (after cash-back)... but the 90 will come in handy when I go to Berlin for the weekend next month... then again I could be cheap in Berlin and get a nifty fifty aswell

Same decision by myself OP. Each 1mm at the wide equated to an extra 5 degrees of view !!

Now you're teasing be with the 50mm f/1.4 ......very nice.

I had one (sold it).

Didn't use it that often to be honest but it certainly was sharp.

Is it worth it over the 1.8 difficult to say mate.......if I was to buy again I would buy the 1.4 but thats just me.

PT lens has a profile for this lens that works pretty well considering. Not sure how much I paid as I got it in HK with lots of other stuff.

Guess what just got delivered this morning

I even would've got it yesterday if I'd been home, great service from Jessops since it was only ordered on Monday... but does the left hand know what the right hand is doing over there!

Re: Sigma 10-20mm

Yes and it is a cracker. Be careful with filters it will just about cope with the thinnest of polarisers out to 12mm. I tend to just hold gradient filters in front of the lens if I need them because even the Lee W/A mount vignettes I also changed the lens cap for a generic (Hama) centre pinch type as it's easier to use with the hood attached.

Would mind telling where you got the pinch cap from - hate the Sigma one, dont like the loose fit (keep fearing it will work loose and and scratch the front element, also a bugger to remove with the hood on).
