Re: Sigma 105mm Macro recommended at Cheltenham Camera Club
I allmost bought one of these 2nd hand earlier in the year but the price was a little too high for me at the time
I've seen some excellent shot's taken with this lens around the net so I agree it's an excellent macro lens, I've also seen excellent shot's taken with the other lenses in the same range from Canon and Tamron all of which get very good reviews aswell, safe to say whatever one you go for your on to a winner. |

Re: Sigma 105mm Macro recommended at Cheltenham Camera Club
I spent ages agonising over whether to get the Canon, Sigma or Tamron macro in this range and eventually bought the Sigma. I'm really happy with it and have since used the Canon and the Tamron, in terms of picture quality there's nothing to choose between them.
The Canon feels like it's built better, the autofocus is quicker and quieter but it's a lot more money. I never use autofocus for macro shots and the Sigma's stood up to everything I've done to it so I think I made the right choice. Get one, you'll love it.

Re: Sigma 105mm Macro recommended at Cheltenham Camera Club
Another thing of interest was the guy never uses flash. He had loads of shots of fungus (mushrooms to me
), in dark locations. He obviously used a tripod, but always uses a few sheets of crumpled baco foil to reflect the light.....worked well . |
