Not sure about this one but i have the 150-500mm and im thrilled with it, i use it on the 1D MKllN and the 40D at the 500mm end handheld which is why i got it (hate tripods) only little gripeis in very low light focus can be a bit sluggish but im talking about birds in flight normally against the same coloured background so i have found this lens being on the camera more times than being in the bag.

Re: Sigma 170 500 anyone

I've got the Canon IS "L's" 70-200mm and 100-400mm. I'm generally disappointed with the 100-400mm probably because of the varying aperture and pump action zoom but if the light is correct it will give some rather good results. The 70-200mm rotary zoom is much quicker and I get extremely good results but sometimes the focus isn't always pin sharp or doesn't focus at all (dependent upon the light and contract in the shot).

I've got the Sigma 8mm and 12-24mm and I'm very impressed with them so far suffering very little problems with either.

Previously, I've tested the f 2.8 300mm prime lens by Canon and Sigma and found very little difference between either of them and both gave outstanding results. But with the type of image I'm taking I need the ability to adjust the zoom. So I've been toying with the idea of changing over to Sigma with f2.8 70-200mm and the 150-500mm which seem to be very reasonably priced.

I've spotted a nearly new Sigma 135-400 APO f4.5-5.6 which is advertised as "chipped for digital" at just under 200 but I'd need the 3 year warranty which the Sigma EX includes within the price.

I'm testing a Sigma 300-800mm in June for a future purchase but any assistance with the performance of both the Sigma 70-200mm and the 150-500mm would be much appreciated.

Sorry I didn't mean to muscle750 in on your thread.

Most, if not all of the Trinidad bird pictures I have been posting over the last few days were taken with the 150-500 on a 40D hand held, occasionally with a mono-pod which helps a lot with the weight. I think it needs to be stopped down a bit to get the best out of it. The Exif info is in the pictures if you want to look. Overall I really like the lens.
