Sigma 18 -35 f1.8 DC HSM (A)

Just read a review on this lens, it seems to be an outstanding lens, getting a score of 95%.
It gives "excellent" image quality and "very good" sharpness. The MTF curve between f4 and f11 stays at over 0.3 cycles per pixle at all focal lengths.
Aberations were rated as "a hint" at 18mm and 35 mm.

I doubt I will get one though, as I rarely use my c size camera as I just love my
1Ds3 and use it all the time, and am thinking of disposing of the 550 and lenses and the 1Ds11N and updating my FF lenses as most are 6 / 7 years old now.

If you don't have the need for a back up kit it really is an expensive collection of stuff to have just lying around.

One word of caution though, there is nothing wrong with old lenses and often modern ones are not as well built as they were in the past.

Re: Sigma 18 -35 f1.8 DC HSM (A)

Thats true Dabhand, but my Canon 24 / 70 2.8 L has just died on me, I thought the softish images were due to shake, but it suddenly started being noisey, then focusing in front of the subject, then stopped , (all in the space of an hour) leaving me with manual focus only while I was out. Not a problem for a lot of my images but a pain for anything aproaching "action", so I am considering the new Tamron version with stabilisation, as it gets good reviews.
