considering this lens, its about £150, F2.8/F4 anyone got one or got any idea on quality? Suggest a similar priced lens?

take a look here fairly mixed opinions but I never really trust user review sites. Some try to compare against L glass and other try to justify their decision.

Also consider the canon 28-105mm F3.5/4.5. It's slightly more expensive but very nice results.

Tamron 28-80 and tokina 28-70 F2.8 also seem to review well, although a little shorter.

hmm i think its a similar thing to the 70-300, some are good and some are bad!

Need to go and try one i think

For your setup you wouldn't be doing too bad by adding in the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 Xr Di, I really can't recommend it highly enough. It was the first lens that I had to use on my 10D and it lived on the camera for much of the first 12mths. It gave excellent results and now lives in the bottom of my bag to come out on special occations

i will look at that Steve, i want a lens to replace the kit effort and take me up to the sigma range, that looks a better range/quality than the original idea i had...
