Sigma 50-500

I have had one of these big babies throwen at me for £500. As anyone had any workings with them. I am doing motor sport photography and wondered if it would handle what I wanted it to do but could be other moving items soon. f4-f6.3 was the issue here as i hear most good sports lens need to be at f2.8.

It just seemed to have a good few write ups even for sport photography.

Re: Sigma 50-500

I seem to recall that it had good press. They have recently released a stabilised version - I assume this is the earlier non-stablised one due to the price.

With modern camera bodies coping with higher ISO now you can reduce the impact of the F6.3 by one or two stops - maybe more.

Re: Sigma 50-500

Yup, the Bigma as it was called had (and continues to have) a very good reputation - as Graham says, it's been superceded by the OS version but that doesn't take anything away!

Personally, I'd always use with a mono/tripod (one of the reasons I got the 150-500 OS over it as I wanted more of a walkabout lens and wasn't interested in the wider angle availability of the Bigma)
