It's compatable yes, but you'll loose autofocus.

You would be far better with the Kenko 1.4x pro DG teleconvertor. Its excellent quality and would allow you to retain autofocus. I used it on my 70-200L to get the first three shots in this thread. Obviously only you would be able to decide if the extra range of the 1.4x is enough for your shooting.

I don't think Ray would be able to retain autofocus with the lens he intends to use it with, even by just loosing 1-stop with a 1.4x t-con... can anyone confirm this please?

If he uses it at f5.6 or below the autofocus will still function. If he tapes the contacts on the converter he will still retain AF at above f5.6 but its effectiveness will be subject to the light conditions at the time of shooting.

Re: Sigma AF EX 2.0x APO converter Canon Fit

I believe that the Pro version has more elements and better performance especially at the edges. I'd go for the PRO 300 DG as Steve suggested earlier. I have the earlier version of the 1.4x (without the 'DG') and that works on the 70-300 IS although it means that the max aperture at 300mm is f/8 and autofocus can be a bit hit-and-miss unless light levels are fairly good.
