Re: Sigma Macro Shots

Here's one I got with the inferior non-APO version at macro distance. Not the greatest shot (I was taking a mobile phone call at the time!) and I don't use that lens for macros usually (have a dedicated 1:1 lens - this lens is only 1:2) but was trying to get the dragons in flight! Failed that but I got lunch out of the phone call!

Re: Sigma Macro Shots

all unsharpened, just cropped, slight increase in saturation and contrast adjusted. I think the macro feature on this lens is superb for its cost, macro is something i've done very little of but wouldn't part with this lens because of the macro feature. Here's a shot with the macro off just to show its a very good zoom lens as well, again an unsharpened version (at the time of posting all of these shots, my PS were limited so didn't know about sharpening versions now on my PC have had a small amount of sharpening and they look even better)

Re: Sigma Macro Shots

thanks heaps ! it looks like i might buy this lense for the price to play around with macro, i can buy it here (australia $) for around 250, i mean its kinda pointless buying a 70-300 since i already have the 70-200 F4 is usm,but i would say my max budget for a macro lense would be $400aus tops, so any macro lense suggestions ? for my said budget, hoping to do insects flower etc kinda shots cheers

Re: Sigma Macro Shots

Personally, I definitely wouldn't recommend that lens for macro (especially as you're duplicating another of your lenses) - it's a really useful extra but it's not true macro (1:2 rather than 1:1) and not as sharp as a dedicated macro. I'd consider the Sigma 105mm or the Tamron 90mm, both give great shots (at fairly reasonable prices) and, as an extra, make great portrait lenses!
