slik 500g lightweight tripod
I picked one up off e-bay some time ago and the head seems to have cracked in a couple of places. Trouble is I can't seem to find a slik 500g head, it must be quite old. Does anyone know the equivelent slik head that will fit this tripod, or is it a lost cause.

Re: slik 500g lightweight tripod
I suspect that unless there is a special fitting, any head will fit on the Slik. I always thought that the threads were universal.
I might be wrong, though. Why not take the head off and try some others in a shop? |

Re: slik 500g lightweight tripod
Its likely to have either a 3/8” or 1/4” thread mount. Just find out which and then you can buy any make/model of head and it will fit as long as the thread is the same...most manufacturers make their heads available in both sizes.

Re: slik 500g lightweight tripod
Thanks for the reply's, it seems to be a kind of clamp tightened with a screw.

Re: slik 500g lightweight tripod
Is that not the actual mounting plate that attaches to the base of your camera? If it is (some tripod heads have separate mounting plates and some don't) then it may be possible for you to detach the whole 'clamp' and replace that?
Depending on the cost of your tripod it may prove to be cheaper to replace the whole lot. |

Re: slik 500g lightweight tripod
Yes it's the whole clamp, I suppose I will have to consign it to the back of the cupboard before throwing it in about 5 years, most likely cheaper to buy another tripod as you say.

Re: slik 500g lightweight tripod
If you can take a picture of the top section of the tripod and post it in this thread, that way we should be able to tell you if you are likely to be able to change the head only and if its worth it.

Re: slik 500g lightweight tripod
Here are the images, to have them display in threads all you need to do is copy the code in the white box below the large image, it is labelled as ‘UBBCode’
Regarding the head, from your shots it appears as though the whole head mechanism works on some sort of a quick release/clamp system. I am unfamiliar with that and my only advice (besides waiting for someone more knowledgably than I) is to see if you can unscrew the top section of the mount system from the tripod legs. If that part is connected through either a 3/8” or 1/4” thread then you may still be in luck and from looking at the tripod as a whole it may be worth replacing the head. Sorry I can’t be of more help ![]()

Re: slik 500g lightweight tripod
Steve thanks for the help. It didn't cost a lot so I will look to replace. I now know how to upload my images as well.
