Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II LD sample shots

My copy of this lens is over three years old, and there's now the 18-250 as well, but these shots may give some idea of its ability. They were taken on the Isle of Lismore in May 2008. We went on a ten mile walk and I didn't want to carry much, so I took just the 30D and the 18-200.

They were shot in RAW, processed with Bibble Pro and saved as low-compression JPEGs. There was no second-stage processing.

22mm

22mm

25mm

200mm

All were at around f/8.

NICE SHOTS SILKSTONE. HAS THE TAMRON GOT VR ? HOW DO YOU THINK IT COMPARES TO NIKON 18 - 200 VR ?

Re: Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II LD sample shots

The Tamron doesn't have image stabilisation. I guess it would be nice if it did, but that would make it heavier, larger and more expensive, and its compact size and low weight are virtues for me.

I'd expect the Nikon lens to be slightly better, and of course it has VR, but every time I use the Tamron I'm surprised how good the image quality is, especially if you can keep to f/8 or above.

Re: Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II LD sample shots

I HAVE A NIKON 18- 200VR LENS, I DON'T FIND IT HEAVY, BUT THE LENS CREEP GETS ON MY NERVES ON OCCASIONS APART FROM THAT IT IS A VERY GOOD LENS. IF THE TAMRON HAD VR I WOULD THINK IT WOULD BE A GOOD CONTENDER FOR THE NIKON.

HAS THE 18 - 250 GOT VR ?

No, the 18-250 is more-or-less the same as the 18-200 except for the longer range. If Tamron did a stabilised version I could be tempted to swap.
