Tamron 18x250 mm (Walkabout Lens)

Re Tamron 18x25 mm Lens
The last thread 18month ago is now closed and I am considering getting this.

It had the Best of Test ( 95%) PhotoPlus ( Canon edition) March 2006 #6

I have the Canon 10x 22 mm
18x55
55x200
The 18x250 would replace the later two.
Any advice from users or others who have considered this lens would be appreciated
Thank you

Re: Tamron 18x250 mm (Walkabout Lens)

I have had the Tamron 18-200 which is very similar to the 18-250. I was very pleased with and reviews of the 18-250 are also good. If you are looking to "save weight" then the Tamron should prove to be a very comptetent lens although you probably won't get the full range and it can struggle in low light.

Re: Tamron 18x250 mm (Walkabout Lens)

Same here - 18-200 which I've had for 3 years.

You have to accept some compromises - mine works best at around f/8 or f/11, it isn't the sharpest lens in the bag (though not bad at all), there is some CA in high contrast scenes, and the 200mm is actually nearer 180.

However, as a general purpose lens that is great for travelling light and/or if you don't want to do a lot of lens-swapping, I'd recommend it.
