Third part macro lens

Hi, guys.

I'm thinking of buying a macro lens. But i don't have much budget to spent. Around $400-$500. Then i found Tamron 90mm f/2,8 Di macro. What do you thiink about this one ? Oh, i also found Sigma 17-70mm f/2,8-4 DC OS Macro HSM AF. Which to be honest i prefer to the Tamron.

Thanks a lot

Re: Third part macro lens

I've not got or used one, but many members have the Tamron 90mm and it is very highly rated. Also consider the Sigma 105mm which is also used by many members.

Re: Third part macro lens

I use the Tamron and find it very good. 90mm @ f2.8 as opposed to the 70mm@ f4 you would be getting with the Sigma and of course it's a prime lens as opposed to a zoom

Re: Third part macro lens

Of the two, the Tamron 90 and the Sigma 17-70, most definitely go for the Tamron. Zoom macros don't do macro particularly well (and aren't usually "true" macros, not being able to achieve 1:1)

Re: Third part macro lens

I've got the Sigma lens, and tend to use it as my 'standard' zoom and for that use it's fine. I've done a couple of close ups with it and it performs ok. I have used a colleagues Tamron 90mm which with macro work wins hands down.

Re: Third part macro lens

For macro then a prime - either the Tamron 90 or Sigma 105. Maybe a second hand Nikon ?
