Thoughts on this please

I am looking at this lens just now,its second hand but looks ok,any thoughts.
£57.50

Condition:
This lens is in excellent condition throughout, the optics are clear of any dust, mildew, grease and the like, and the lens is naturally in full working order…………..everything performs 100% exactly as it should.

The focus and zoom rings are both light and smooth in use, it is a real pleasure to use.

Specifications:
The 35-70 Macro is one of Canons original and most popular AF short zoom lenses.

The focal range covers those most commonly associated with normal eyesight, so images reflect those as we see in day-to-day life.

At 35mm the lens is ideal for architecture and landscape work, whilst zip quickly over to the 70mm end and we have one perfect for portraiture and the like.

Additionally, its close focus distance of just 39cm makes it ideal for those quick and easy macro shots.

Its non-rotating front lens element is perfect for using polarising and graduated filters.

This is the ideal lens to leave on your camera for all occasions.

Weight - 245g
Length (min / max) - 65mm / 70mm
Filter Size - 52mm
Minimum Focus - 0.39m
Aperture Range - F3.5/4.5 - F32

Re: Thoughts on this please

not had any experience with this lens.
Looks like a very old one though as I dont think canon do a 35-70 macro anymore.
I did a quick ebay search and saw that (at time of writing) there is a canon T50 with this lens on at £5 starting and no bids. (item no: 280229902731)

With that in mind, £57 seems extortionate!!

Re: Thoughts on this please

I have this set up to write in black but I am using the Pixalo editor. You should be able to read this as the forum software seems to cope with that. When I sent a message from work I wrote in in Word (in black) to spell check it and then pasted it into the Pixalo reply box. Then people said that the could not see it when using the black screen. I will have a quick try below from Word in black and green on two lines

Word cut and paste in black text
Now in green text

edit - I give up I can see both lines when I switched to the black screen from my normal blue one . ***!!!*&&?? computers they will never catch on

Re: Thoughts on this please

Sigma provide international warranty so you can buy from OneStop without any issue. I bought my new Canon body in the UK as they do not support an international warranty.

Re: Thoughts on this please

"Better" is a very subjective word and could mean any number of things (which will, in turn, mean different things to different people). From all accounts, the Tamron, Sigma and Canon (the lenses around 100mm) are about the same in image quality. However the method of operation, build and price varies! Ideally, try them and then make up your mind which 'feels' better - or just go for the best deal!

BTW, that 35-70 lens I can lay my hands on one and try it, if you like. Don't think it'll be a true macro (probably 1:2) but understand it was one of Canon's earliest lightweight zooms and a bit of a standard workhorse. May be OK for portraits but I wouldn't consider it for macro work

That lens gets consistently excellent reviews, I have the Tamron 180mm and it's great. I also have the Sigma 105mm, also great.

I've used the Canon equivalent and it feels better built, the autofocus is quieter and faster but I don't use autofocus on Macro shots. I'm happier with what I've got and the extra cash.

cheers

Dan
