Tripod Ball Head - 1 or 3 knob control ?

OK, I've been looking at different Benro Tripod Ball heads & noticed the single knob control heads cost more than the 3 knob control heads

Any reason for choosing 3 knob control over 1 knob, apart from price ??

Anything else I should be looking out for on these heads ?

Re: Tripod Ball Head - 1 or 3 knob control ?

I used to have a Gitzo head that had one knob which controlled all the movements but couldn't get on with it..........changed to the one with two knobs.

Re: Tripod Ball Head - 1 or 3 knob control ?

I thought that the idea of the heads with more than one knob was that you could adjust the orientation in one plane while keeping it in others.

I believe that the primary reason for using a ball head was for the speed of adjustment, as you only have to operate one knob (admittedly with the camera moving in all directions).

If you are going for a head with three way locking, you might as well have a pan/tilt head.

I guess it depends whet you are going to be using it for. Some subjects will have diferent requirements than others.

If it is for general use, back to the compromise again!

I'm thinking that the 3 knob will give more control - tho' actually it's 2 knobs: ball rotate and ball friction, the 3rd is the pano which is on the "single" knob!

I use a simple Benbo ball head and find it ideal for 'quick setup & shoot' as well as getting those weird angles so necessary when the tripod is contorted into equally weird configuration!

However, downside is I have no horizontal or panning aids - been thinking of getting another head and attaching it, as needed, at other end of central column
