Tripod Question... possible price check if I decide to sell
Evening all
I have been looking for a tripod for a friend and found the Velbon DX 888 tripod with QR plate which he likes (and will probably buy). Now to my question... in a round about way I currently have a Manfrotto MN714B tripod coupled with a Manfrotto 484RC2 quick release ball head. The one thing I wish I had bought initially was a head with a panning handle for when I shoot motorsports as my current head is no good for that. Would the DX 888 fit my needs instead of the more expensive manfrotto set up? My camera is the 350D with grip and either the EF-S 17-85 IS USM or the Sigma 30-300 APO will be attached while it is on the tripod. If the Velbon will do what I need, then what kind of price should I expect if I sell my current manfrotto kit either on fleabay or via one or two forums I visit? Any and all help is appreciated |

I had a Velbo CX 660 which looks very similar to the one you've mentioned, it was terrible!
The bracing between the legs makes usage on wild ground difficult and you can't spread the legs and get right down for the arty stuff. I got rid of it and now have a manfrotto 190, i'd have liked the 055 but size and the fact that i got the 190 as a present put pay to that. Matty on here got hold of what I can only describe as a direct copy of the 190 for a fraction of the cost, he added a velbon 3 way head iirc, that should give you what you need
