Tripods?

can anyone recommend a good tripod model? I'm thinking of manfrotto 7302YB, an entry level tripod with an attached ball-head. I don't own any heavier equipments as of now and I don't see myself buying any "L" grade glasses anytime soon. so I guess this would do? anyone has experience with this model?

I figured rather than going for more expensive gear, I'd make the best out of what I already have and that a good tripod can significantly improve the quality of a photo. currently I'm using the cheap tripod I got with my camera. I cannot even lock it up properly, without having to adjust it all over again.

thank you in advance

Re: Tripods?

I made the switch to carbon fibre a while back with a Velbon CF535 and use it with a manfrotto 486 ball head. From memory, it weighs in at a shade over 1kg, so it is no trouble to carry it.

Don't know what kit is available to you, but I got it from Bristol Cameras in the UK for £115 which I don't think is expensive for a lifetime accessory.

Re: Tripods?

If funds will stretch and your going to take it travelling then get a carbon fibre one i got a alliminum one and a CF one the CF is always the one that goes travelling i even lugged it round Dubai in 50c plus heat Mine is a Velbon one. Igot a few different heads as well a three way one a Manfrotto pistol grip effort which is ok but i wouldnt buy it again and a smaller ball head one which is small compact yet no good for big lenses etc. One word of warning i now never take the mount plate off my camera as i once took my tripod and camera and left the mount plate at home

Re: Tripods?

thank you. I just found this deal on ebay - Manfrotto 7322YB MYPACK Tripod & FREE Backpack NEW UK | eBay
what do you think of it? GBP 45 for shipping to Sri Lanka. it's slightly expensive than the 7302YB, which is $128 and free shipping. apparently the 7322YB doesn't fit into the bag they provide. I could use a new bag too though.

Re: Tripods?

I suppose the CF tripods are expensive. I know it's a good investment. But I cannot afford one yet. and I never remove the mount plate coz I don't have to. I only own one camera body and the plate is permanently attached to it.

Re: Tripods?

I have a few tripods, and have owned fdar too many and the old adage is true that you will spend a fortune on them before you realise that you need an expensive one. However that won't help if you can't afford an expensive one. A bad tripod is still much better than no tripod and the best tripod is the one you have with you and the one you use.

Like a lot of things you can have any 2 of sturdy, cheap and light. If I were you I'd get a heavy cheap aluminum one which will be sturdy and improve your pictures and get you more exercise. If you can find one in a store rather than international shipping though it will make a big difference as again weight is not your friend.

Re: Tripods?

yeah, like me signature reads "The best camera is that what you have now" I still use my crappy tripod. it's just that I complain a lot about it lol

apparently the model I'm looking for is not here. they don't import it anymore since it's rather expensive (relatively) and the DSLR market is very thin in Sri Lanka. so I have to rely on ebay. it's aluminium and can hold up to 3.5kgs. well that's what the description says.

I have the same problem. I can't afford a good tripod right now, but i'm looking for som'thing that will hold my 60D and my Sigma 10-20. Something to get the job done, with a small price. When the time comes, i will get a good one, but till then...can anyone help??

Re: Tripods?

What is your budget? I assume you want a head as well as legs for the price. My first thought would be Velbon they always do well in tests of budget models.

Re: Tripods?

If you want a seriously useful tripod, look at Benbo or Uni-loc. I have a classic Benbo and a light-weight Uni-Loc, plus a Benbo monopod, which weighs nearly half as much as my old Manfrotto.

Mate any of the above to an appropriate Manfrotto ball-head and you have a stable platform with greater flexibility than any other combination.

I've had mine for many years and I wouldn't change to anything else, if I could avoid it.
