Re: Velbon Sherpa PRO CF535 - Can you find better for £115 ?

Is it high enough? I've never liked using a tripod at it's full extension and the spec you have posted says it only extends to 156 cm. If this is this with the legs together it will be lower with the legs deployed. Also is that with the column extended? If that is so, I definitely think this one is just too short.

Re: Velbon Sherpa PRO CF535 - Can you find better for £115 ?

At full extension and with the column fully extended?

If it is 5 foot with just the legs extended, I guess there is a bit of leeway, but as a short**s, I often wonder how normal people get on with tripods. As I said, I don't like using them at full extension as they are least stable then, so if you are over 6 foot, you must need an angle finder!

The closed length is shown as 55cm, and there must be some overlap in the legs and the head to take into account too, so I'd still be wanting to see if there was any hidden surprises regarding the column being instrumental in achieving 5 foot.

As an afterthought I don't think I know any normal people

Re: Velbon Sherpa PRO CF535 - Can you find better for £115 ?

I've just had a look on the Jessop's site, and they have 13 tripods that extend over 155cm. They range from 176 to 267cm!

Did not check out makes/prices, just used the height drop-down box in the search field.

Re: Velbon Sherpa PRO CF535 - Can you find better for £115 ?

I am thinking of trading in my manfrotto 055 prob for this. simply because my prob weighs the same as a small car!

The height of the velbon is an issue tho. I'm 6'2" and I can extend my prob so i need a chair to look through the viewfinder! From my understanding of the, rather lame, velbon website, this 1.5m is just the legs fully extended & spread. You can add thei height of up to 36.7cm for the center column.

Might be wrong tho.

Re: Velbon Sherpa PRO CF535 - Can you find better for £115 ?

After much umming & ahhing I bought the Velbon at £115 The Benro looked very nice, but with the right head it was double the cost, so for the mo I will see how I get on with the Velbon ..... that's if I ever take it out

Exactly my thoughts if you read the earlier posts. Would not be an issue for a short***e like me, but I don't like using tripods at max extention, so for normal people I think it could be an issue. We'll have to see if Dave's one features in the classifieds next week!
