Wanted! Side-by-side comparison of 50D and 5D MkII
Neither are in the shops yet, and there are no in-depth reviews (as far as I know), but what I'd like to see is a direct comparison of the 50D and the 5D MkII.
I don't care whether the sensor is minuscule or half and acre - all that matters is the image quality. So it would be interesting to see the same range of subjects, framed exactly the same way, taken on both cameras.Let's see how the 50D + 24-105 at 50mm compares with the 5D MkII and the same lens at 80mm and various ISO settings. Also let's compare the 50D + 10-22 at, say, 12mm against the 5D + 17-40 at 19mm. I'd really like to know whether 'full-frame' does give better quality, all other things being equal. I'm not convinced, but am open to persuasion.

I am curious as well. I'm not convinced if there is that much difference.

Nor am I.
It may even be that the 50D performs better than the 5D when using full-frame lenses, since it's not using the edges of the lens. But I don't know, and I like to.

Re: Wanted! Side-by-side comparison of 50D and 5D MkII
There is a photographer on another forum who has the 50D and the high iso is pretty amazing ... I've a 5DII on order in the US but don't know when shipping will start.
here is a link to a full size raw file of his shot at 6400 https://www.yousendit.com/download/b...Q3RiV3hFQlE9PQ |

Re: Wanted! Side-by-side comparison of 50D and 5D MkII
I am also awaiting such comparative reviews before I buy. I have L series lenses anyway as my old lenses were limiting the performance of my EOS 20D. I am sure in theory the sensor for the 5D MkII can produce higher resolution and dynamic range than the 50D but in practice and particularly taking account of lens performance, the actual practical difference may not be very significant.

I can view the thumbnail, but Bibble doen't support the 50D yet.EDIT/ Belay that - F-Spot opens it. Yes, it's quite impressive although there is some noise and banding. I'd say that the 40D is fairly similar at ISO 3200.
