Waterproofing your camera

As many of you don't have a weather sealed camera, I thought I would post a link to this very good alternative.

The Kata E-702 seals over the lens with a pull cord, it also has two sleeves for your handies.

Looks a bit Heath Robinson - I think I'll just stay in when it rains

Re: Waterproofing your camera

I purchased one of these. It's very good when mounting the camera on a tripod but I find it not very good for work when off the tripod. Does anyone know of a simpler method ?

Re: Waterproofing your camera

Dunno about a better solution for off-tripod work, but the E-702 can be used handheld if pressed - it's just that it was never designed for that sort of work... it was meant more for nature and landscape photographers who might need to keep things dry for hours at a time.

If anyone routinely shoots (or would like to shoot) in wet conditions, you should think about moving up to a pro-level body such as the Canon 1Ds series or the Nikon D2 series, since they are designed to take the sort of abuse that the elements can throw at them.

A word of caution, though - even though pro bodies are weather sealed, most lenses aren't that robust... the weak point in all systems is the lens mount collar since most lenses don't sport a rubber seal

Re: Waterproofing your camera

A trash bag and duct tape. Also, a large trash bage makes a great, impromptu, rain slicker.

Cut a hole for the lens hood, fit the bag over the camera/tripod and tape the bag to the hood.

I always carry a trash bag folded in the pocket of my cargo shorts.

Re: Waterproofing your camera

which is fine as long as your lens hood doesn't rotate when focussing
