Well pleased; but!

Well drove 1hr 30mins to WEX photographic, took 2 DSLRs and the old 'diesel powered' 40-800mm lens and part-ex's, left them with them for TWO HOURS while they checked them all out then was offered a decent price and got me a new Full Frame (Already had 2), paid a lot les than I thought and came away with a brand new D???
Problem is I have had a mare opening up the RAW2NEF files, in the end found a converter so I could open them in an old Capture NX2 program 2.4.5. Serif Aperture opened it, but haven't found the Adobe Raw Converter for it yet so cannot open in Elements12!
So will trundle on with Capture NX2, which I like and have got use to.

But thank you Nikon the shutter is so so quiet! unless I have forgotten to extract some packing...:dunk:

Re: Well pleased; but!

Congrats on your new purchase. I waited until I saw this on a second PC just to be sure - lovely colour but there's a definite lack of sharpness or focus in the image. Probably a one-off but worth taking a few more to check.

Re: Well pleased; but!

Congrats on the new camera. Pic is slightly out of focus on the flower - but lovely colours. Did you think the two hour wait was a long time ? I guess they were thorough then, always good to get things at a good price

Re: Well pleased; but!

Likewise congrats. You have chosen a difficult subject with respect to colours, I think, (tend to throw the hue out of kilter) but it has been handled well. I also agree with Stephen re focus might be worth checking the phase fine tuning versus the live contrast. My 800 needs it for nearly every lens.

Graham (Dabs) and I compared shutter noise between the 800 and 810, and the 810 is significantly quieter, so quiet in fact that I could barely hear it even standing very close by. Admittedly we were standing in St James park with some light traffic noise in the background.

Very tempted by the extra capability, but expect that Nikon will be moving on to better things in the next models, as they now have done with their introduction of the 16-80DX, that boasts 2 features only found previously on the most expensive FX lenses - namely Flourite coating (now added by the competition -Tamron, on their newer lenses), and electronic diaphragm (long time in use by Canon).

Re: Well pleased; but!

Thanks for the input, yes when I was post processing I was a bit disappointed with sharpness but then noticed that one of the pink flowers on the left was quite sharp.
I had another I took of my partner picking the blueberries, although the focusing hadn't picked up on her standing behind the blueberries, the blueberries were pin sharp. So a few more checks before I attempt anything on the fine tune.
Have found something out about the D810 NEF files and how to use CaptureNX2, but will put that in a different post in the relevant place, again more checks needed first.
