Please could anyone give me advise on what wide angle lense would be best for my 350d, i want to take some landscape photos and want a really wide angle, but havent got a clue what i need. i do want a good quality lense as i am trying to build up my equipment and want the best i can get so the only excuse is me if the pic dont turn out.

I, and many others rate the Sigma 10-20. This is a really wide lens and I find it excels in tight urban situations.

It will give great perspectives, and you can capture impossble compositions with foreground items being only inches from the camera.

But you don't need to necessarily go to this ultra-wide range to get good landscapes, the Canon 17-40 might be worth considering.

I would seriously look at the sigma 10 - 20 mm lens. I do not think I have ever heard anyone say anything bad about it and I love mine.

I very seldom disagree with Dabhand but I see you already have a 18-55 lens so the 17 - 40 would not be of much help to you.

Similarly, I don't often disagree with AQ but only mentioned the 17-40 as it is probably a better lens than the 18-55.

I love my 10-20 and would not part with it.

Well I never disagree with anyone so I'm in absolute concord. (That means my nose droops and I drink too much vodka.)

I'll put in a tiny advert for the Canon 10-22 which is also very good but more expensive than the Sigma 10-20. However, if you have a cashback offer on it, the price is not far different. In terms of image quality, the Canon's only real advantage is slightly lower barrel distortion.

The Sigma at 10mm is excellent for dramatic landscape shots :- Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM example / sample photos / shots .

For more normal landscape shots the Canon 17-40 L is a better quality lens.

For the ultra wide angle shots the 2 rivals would be the Sigma 10-20mm and the Canon 10-22mm, assuming you discount fisheyes. Canon is more expensive but both lenses perform quite well from what I've heard.

Maybe worth trying both out in your local camera shop. I would say it's mostly how they feel and how much you want to spend. For the average photographer the difference in the quality is not dramatic.

cano recommend the canon 10-22mm, fabulous shots at all focal lengths! cant rate it highly enough

I have the Sigma 10 - 20mm for dramatic images and the sigma 17 - 70mm for a general purpose lens.

I am pleased with both of them
