Question What's your least used lens & why ?

You've got that lovely set of lenses, but for some reason there's always that one that sits at the bottom of the camera bag , hardly used Which lens does this describe for you & why ? Should you sell it on ?

Re: What's your least used lens & why ?

I don't have a least used lens as I carefully chose all my lenses to fill my shooting range from 17mm through to 300mm. There is little overlap in my lenses and I have absolutely no issues at all switching lenses (even for just one shot) so all get used frequently.

I guess if I became more specialised in the future it could change but I probably would not sell any of my lenses even if they where not being used much.

Re: What's your least used lens & why ?

well there is a difference between "Least used" & redundant

Although I use all of mine from time to time the 35-80 probably gets least use.

Re: What's your least used lens & why ?

Least used is my Nikon 12-24DX, since it's an f/4 constant lens and best suited to landscape work... something I rarely do outside of holidays or specific journeys.

I'd never sell the lens on though since, when combined with Nikon's thin circular polarizer (v2), it renders absolutely gorgeous results. It's the lens I wish I had owned prior to my trip to the Grand Canyon last year.

So: although it only comes out of the bag once in a blue moon, I'm not parting with it

Edit: nearly forgot - when it came time to sell our last house, I took all my own shots (interior and exterior) using my D2X and this lens for the estate agent... far outclassing what they would have acheived with their little point-and-click cams. The house sold within a week

Re: What's your least used lens & why ?

Like Steve, I have planned carefully the lenses I have BUT that isn't because I am a smartarse, it's because I started off with cheap lenses to give me the ability to shoot pretty much whatever I wanted and then slowly replaced them with top quality lenses as and when i could afford to.

Given that I have 6 lenses in total of which 4 are L series and the other two are both prime lenses (my 100mm f2.8 macro and my nifty fifty) I simply couldn't afford to make a mistake in buying a lens that costs several hundred pounds and in two cases that are four-figure values. Ok, I didn't pay top whack for any of them as I waited until I could find them at the right price on Ebay and things but they are still lenses I bought because I wanted them.

The nifty fifty doesn't get used a whole lot but I haven't had it that long and when I need a prime lens for low light, that is the obvious choice.

So, definitely none are redundant but least used? I guess my 300mm f4 prime IS L series which is a cracking lens but I also have my 100-400mm zoom IS L series which tends to be the one I take out on a shoot as carrying both is hard work and I get more versatility with the latter even though it has smaller aperture and is a zoom.

But am I going to sell it? Not a chance! :o)

Cheers,
Rob
