Re: What's your most used lens & why

For me it has to be a toss up between the Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8, purely cuz it costs so much so feel I have to use it ......or the Sigma 10-20mm, just because I love the wide angle shots it gives

Tamron 18-200mm simply because of the range it covers. For £260 sovs an excellent walk-about lens.

Re: What's your most used lens & why

My kit 18-70 is on the camera all of the time, because it's the only one I've got!

If you do decide to sell the Sigma 70-200, Dave, maybe that situation will change!

Sigma 18-50mm DC kit lens stays on - 'cos camera fits in camera bag better!
But Sigma 105mm EX DG Macro is arguably used more often (well, more successfully!). Well, in the summer, anyway

Re: What's your most used lens & why

I do tend to keep the Sigma 30mm 1.4 (48mm equivalent on 35mm) on the digital camera with the others close at hand if required.

It is a very sharp lens with good contrast and I like the fast lens.

I can also crop part of the image and then use Sizefixer SLR to bring out detail.

Re: What's your most used lens & why

My Nikkor 18-70mm lense is the most consistently used lense. Covers most of my needs at present. I would like a nice wideangle lense for travel, landscapes and and general photography though, any suggestions ?

Re: What's your most used lens & why

Canon 17-40L is my default lens and the one that 'lives' on the camera. I tend to shoot landscape mainly but at a push the 17-40 will return reasonable results for most subject matter (excluding zoom ranges).

If I am going out to photograph a certain subject I will select the most suitable lens in advance and ensure that it is cleaned and setup on the camera so that I am prepared as soon as the first shot presents itself.

Canon EF-s 17-85mm IS - mainly because I am trying more landscapes and the walking helps keep me fit

For me it's either my 17-85 or my 70-200 as that gives me a very usable range

Re: What's your most used lens & why

My Nikon 17-55DX is my 'go-to' lens; it's the one I purchased along with my first body and has proven to be a workhorse for most shooting. If I could only pack one lens with me for any given job, this would be the one.

It's effective focal length in 35FF terms is 25.5 - 82.5mm and therefore it can handle a wide range of subject matter. Colour rendition and sharpness is good when wide open and even better when stopped down to f/4 and beyond.

For PJ work it's built like a tank and can withstand the knocks and bumps that go with the territory - the only downside of this being that it is one seriously weighty piece of glass and therefore takes a little getting used to at first

Re: What's your most used lens & why

I used to keep the 17-40mm L series on as my standard lens but I now use that mostly for landscapes as I picked up the 28-70mm f 2.8 L series which is now my workhorse lens.

If Stepheno puts it up on the Review page, I'll write a review on it. It was superceded by the 24-70mm but loads of these still about and many, like me, still rate the 28-70mm as a better lens.

Go on Stepheno, jump to it

Fave lens to use has got to be my 100-400mm L series, that is a classic of a lens. But then I love macro so my 100mm f2/8 macro is popular too. And....

Ah what the heck, I love em all! You wouldn't ask a father which of his children he loved most! :o)

Cheers,
Rob

Re: What's your most used lens & why

In the summer, when the bugs are about a Tamron 180mm Macro. The rest of the time a Canon 24-105L f4 IS, with the 5D this is generally wide enough although a little more length is sometime required. Then I've generally used a 70-200L f2.8 IS, but now I have the 100-400L IS that may be different.
