Wireless Query

Hi all , I have a Nikon D300 and would like to shoot with the pics transferring to the laptop "live " as it were.

I know there are 2 Wireless transmitters ( WT-4) which cost a fortune, so I am wondering, is there any cable which would attach form the camera to the laptop which would carry the images? doing the same job?

Any help would be appreciated

Re: Wireless Query

I am pretty sure a USB cable from camera to computer will allow automatic transfer of the images to Nikon's camera control pro software. Alternatively, google on "Tuneup TetherPro".

Re: Wireless Query

Hi , I actually ordered it last night, the chap selling was very helpful and also confirmed that the program works with the dreaded Vista and with Both my D300 and D80 cameras so hopefully He also said any probs that he would refund so cannot say fairer than that really.

It is a software program, and you buy ( which I am lookin for at the moment) a USB cable, with a Mini B socket for the camera i think. I going to look for a 5m cable and hopefully the transfer time isnt affected by that length.

http://stores.shop.ebay.com/OxfordEy...etherPro.html_

anyway for 25 & free postage its worth a punt

hope this helps

Software + USB lead is all you need.

Re: Wireless Query

For anyone interested in trying this with Canon it can be done with the software that comes with your camera. Various guides/tutorials are available online if you do a google search for "tethered Canon"

Re: Wireless Query

The nikon capture software works really well. If you set it up right, you can get the photos auto importing into lightroom as well (careful hackery of lightroom and nikon software settings...).

The length of usb cable won't affect the speed of transfer at all, and whatever happens, will be waaay faster than a wireless transmitter.

Re: Wireless Query

Hi, the software I bought was a download and had to use the Beta version to work with Vista. A few teething problems , but the seller was very prompt and extremely helpful and friendly. The only problem I had was with a 5m cable I had ( I bought a cheap one ). The Nikon cable which came with the D300 worked perfectly with this program. But of course its only a metre long lol.

So I am going to buy a 20 5m USB cable which works, it might be that the cheaper cable wasnt shielded very well but it just wouldnt have it. So really in summing up, I would reccomend the Tether program , especially when its only a 25 download ( In photographic equipment terms thats peanuts it seems lol).

Just have to save up over a period of time for the WT-4 which is still mega expensive

Hope this helps some people in deciding if this program is good or not
