Is it worth spending on Nikon - MICRO 200MM F4

Hi, since I've got my D700, i've lost a bit of mm's on my 105mm vr because of the FF. Now I know someone who is selling the old Nikon - MICRO 200MM F4. This lens is half the weight as the newer version and hasn't got AF on it, but I don't think that is a problem for me as I prefer from experience to manual focus. Also the price is not even 400 euro's.

But is it worth spending on an old lens? Is it worth that much. The person who is selling, has done 40 years of macro and because of health issues, he can't do it anymore.

If it's the D it sounds like one of the best Nikon lenses you can get - but it'll cost a couple of thousand Euros (so I'm guessing it's the not-so-good f/4 )

I own a 105mm like you, I have never had or used a 200mm but the lens you have mentioned is really old now but its still a answer to your getting closer, the only stumbling block is the price, I personaly would not pay that much for it so if I were you I would have a real good think about it!

Re: Is it worth spending on Nikon - MICRO 200MM F4

It is the model before 1993. Yeh I know the (newest) model with AF is a couple of thousant. I wouldn't want to put so much money down anymore for a lens.

It does seem a bit much, but I can't find any same lens for sale anywhere else. Or any reviews about it. The person who is selling it has done 40 years of macrophotography. Don't know how long he had this lens for though.
