i collect camera's , and to date have over 115 of them,

most are old box kodak camera's tho, like the ones you see every one selling at car boot sales, the thing is, they were made in their millions , litlerally millions, and so dont command the price most peeps ask for them, i have a copy of McKeowans camera guide, and they list em at around $2 each in mint condition,

however, like most things in this world there are rare versions, like the half dozen ' Mickey mouse ' box brownies, they are worth several thousand...( and there is one they cant find , we live in hope )

again, this camera in the link is a milestone in development and comercial standing , it will demand/get a price of what someone will pay to ' have it '

in short 99% of camera's are worth a lot less than you think, and the 1% left are worth way way more than you can imagine,

its finding the 1% that makes it fun

btw, the version of McKeowns i have actually has the camera in the link on the front cover , it is rare in that it is also a Canon with a Nikkor ( aka Nikon ) lens, These camera are comonly accepted as the forunners to both the Nikon and Canon camera's that followed,i think i'm right in saying that the Nippon Kogaku mark changed to Nikon to save confusion , my 1998 book estimates top condition value at around the $10-$12,000 mark , prolly gone up since then,

MyPix

ps, so as for the Canon/Nikon wars , they all started of life the same camera

after reading up a little more on it, the ' Hansa ' mark above the Canon name means it is slightly less rare than the non Hansa named vesrion, although identicle in looks and operation, and is worth about 10% less

Beautiful though...
My current-issue Leicas go for £1100 second-hand and I bought them for about the same when they were new. A good-quality M3 will sell for £3k easy.

When I took my M6 up to Leica for a service, the service manager told me he'd re-calibrated the focussing as it was 1/2mm out over the test distance of 20 feet. I laughingly told him DoF would take care of that insignificant an error.
He laughed back and told me that I was one of the few people who actually used his camera to take photos rather than sit it in a vault and wait for the prices to go up.

Very sad when you know that your product is mostly being bought as an investment opportunity, not as a tool.
