CANON 5D
Hi have a canon 5D that I cant seem to get on with. I am wanting a 400D. I am willing to do a part exchange. The 5D is about 6 months old (will double check with reciept) I bought it from jessops and paid extra for the 3 years extended warrenty. Hardly been used and in perfect condition. I am selling the body only. Anyone interested????

Re: CANON 5D
Hi Starmast - as Soupdragon says it is policy to state an asking price in a classified. I know it isn't easy with P/X but you could state the balance you want taling into consideration the different values.

Re: CANON 5D
Ok, Good comment. Anyone have any ideas of the value of a second hand 5D. It may sound stupid asking that question, but I have never ever sold a camera before, I have usually given them to friends and relatives (they havent been worth a lot). I have looked around and cant find any second hand 5Ds. I know what I paid for it, I know I wont get nowhere near that, so anyone with any help would be nice. I have seen them on Ebay (Im not sugesting that Ebay is a good place to buy them) from £1100 through to about £1600. I have also seen the 400s from between £340 through to about £400. Im no mathmatician (or speller) but I have a feeling that my camera is worth about £1600, especially with the warrenty. I will probably be told different, but you have to start somewhere????? Nancy....................

Re: CANON 5D
Nancy, I think you will need to simply sell the 5D for whatever price you feel is fair and then use the money to go and buy the 400D rather than doing a part exchange.
Generally speaking, if we are talking about a top quality camera and it is in top condition but is second hand, I would expect to pay no more than 70% of what I could pay for it new. The 5D is being sold by a plethora of retailers on Ebay (I use Ebay for most of my purchases and haven't had any problems) for £1400 including postage. I noticed there is one person trying to sell a 5D body only privately on Ebay, mint condition, a few months old and with a 3 year warranty extension (I wondered if it was you at first!) for £1448 but with only hours to go has not had any takers, hence I think £1400 for a new one is about right. So at £1400 for a new one, a person willing to pay 70% would expect to pay about £1000. Just to mention, Canon are still allowing some retailers in the UK to offer the £200 cashback offer so brand new even a UK price comes down to £1599. Ok, there you go, that's roughly how I think most people would go about setting a price. If the amount mentioned interests you, drop me a private message as I would be interested. I couldn't go higher than that as I haven't got it but am a serious buyer and would never seek to rip someone off. I have, I believe, a good reputation on Pixalo but if you are looking for more, I will not be in the least offended if you reject my offer for a higher bid. No problem at all and I would wish whoever buys it well. Cheers, Rob

Re: CANON 5D
Hi Rob, Many thanks for your input. I have taken what you have said on board and I do appreciate it. One thing I have plucked from your comments is, I think I will try it on Ebay (No the other one wasnt me), it will cost me about 3 or 4 pound, so not a fortune. Thankyou also for your offer, but it is a bit too low for me, appreciate the offer though. An offer is better than none at all. Once again thankyou.. Nancy......

Re: CANON 5D
Nancy, what is is about the 400d that makes you think you'd get on better with that than with a 5D?
I have a 5d and it's great, I have a 20d which is also great. I had a 300d which was very basic and I soon got shot of it. You're going to loose a fair amount of dosh selling the 5d and it'd be a shame if you "couldn't get on with" a 400d either. cheers Dan |

Re: CANON 5D
Hi Dan, I think its the size (doesnt normally bother me!!??
). It just seems to be cumbersome and I am not comfortable with it. I would like to get on with it because I believe it to be a cracking piece of kit. I might try again, but this time be a little more posative. Regards, Nancy.................

Re: CANON 5D
Starmast, I think your observations about the camera having to feel right in your hands is spot on. If the camera doesn't feel comfortable, you won't take the best photographs & at worst it will put you off using the camera in the 1st place.
Good luck with whatever you choose

Re: CANON 5D
Just to confuse you a little more
Have you thought/looked at the 30D as its size is somewhere inbetween the 400D and the 5D? You may find that fits your requirements better? |

Re: CANON 5D
And it gets worse...if you like the 30D it is likely that in the next few weeks Canon may well introduce an updated model. Currently it is being called the 40D but any specifications are at best educated guesses.
It might well be worth you waiting just a few weeks weeks though before making your final decision |
