Re: Capture One - two free licences.

I'm assuming this is the LE version that comes with the sandisk cards?

Re: Capture One - two free licences.

Stepheno, may I mention an issue with these, if yours is a Sandisk one ...

I was the recipient of such a key, kindly given away by P-E. Phase One kept telling me it was a trial version + it expired a couple of times, although when I re-activated it, it would be okay again ... for a while.

In the end, I re-downloaded it, making sure I followed all the links to the Sandisk version, NOT the ordinary trial version, + it seems to be okay. I did receive an email from them even after that, to say it was a trial version, but having checked the software it is still acknowledging the activation key, so we will see, but seems that did do the trick.

Sooo bottom line, when you download it, make sure to follow links for Sandisk version. HTH to avoid the same problem for others

Thanks both - yes they are the Sandisk versions and as Charlotte says if you follow the link to Sandisk on Phaseone site they will be OK.

Capture One is an excellent RAW editor

Good of you to give them away stepheno as I think they are worth £69

Re: Capture One - two free licences.

There are only three aspects of CaptureONE LE that are missing in terms of my own workflow.

1. No ability to downsize the pictures when saving them
2. No way to enter or append IPTC / keyword data to shots within the software
3. Doesn't handle DNG files

CaptureONE certainly has ease-of-use (once you figure out the interface) and is very fast at prevewing images in a shoot folder, and I'd go so far to say that it has a better conversion engine than Adobe Camera RAW....

but

I personally need to be able to review, edit, add keyword / IPTC data and then batch save to .jpg within a few minutes of getting the shots off the cards; Adobe Bridge with Camera RAW 4.0 allows me to do all of that within the one application. I can't justify moving to CaptureONE Pro for ~£350 when the PS CS3 upgrade cost far less.

Still, for day-to-day casual use, CaptureONE LE is a fantastic RAW converter

Re: Capture One - two free licences.

For the features it does have, I find Capture One a pleasure to work with. I like the interface tremendously, except :

1. When you drag the viewing pane left, the control buttons on the left panel get hidden so that if you want them, you have to move the pane to the right again. The other panels are better designed for quick access to control buttons when the panels are hidden.

2. It only displays images clearly at 100% or 400%. At any other zoom level all images are full of jaggies so you can't see it clearly, let alone work on it. What's more, it's confusing that what they call 400% is in fact 100% image size

3. Like VP, I find it annoying that I can't change the image size when I export an image. If you want to downsize, you then have to open image in another editor.

4. It does have limited editing tools, e.g. no fill light.

BUT it is quick to work with, + tools are easily accessible + they do a good job

I've just bought Lightroom tho' so we'll see which I end up using most
